Designer Work Experience At Mooch
Lucy has been in the office this week for an insight into the design and creative marketing industry, seeing what it’s like working for a marketing agency in Birmingham.
Lucy is currently doing a degree in English and Theatre at the University of Sheffield and whilst being there has been part of the Theatre Society. She creates posters & leaflets for their performances & shows and has really started to enjoy the design and wants to know more about the design industry & graphic design.
She wanted to visit our offices mooch for some work experience to see what it would be like to work in an agency. She’s done a huge range of different design projects this week & has enjoyed being part of team mooch!
We had a little chat with her on her last day…
Could you tell us the most interesting thing you’ve discovered in terms of design this week?
“Understanding the creative process, from when a client has signed off a project, to the brief process, mood boarding & planning as well as the initial design concepts, development of ideas and getting client feedback. I found this really interesting to see the whole creative process not just the end result!”
What sorts of things did you learn from going around the studio & sitting with the designers?
“I found out about the big range of different softwares you guys use and what they’re used for from Blender for 3D design as well as After Effects for animation and video to Adobe Photoshop and Indesign for the 2D graphics. I was interesting seeing how the different platforms are used for different projects.”
What design skills do you think you’ve developed this week?
“I’ve really developed my Photoshop skills, used WordPress and InDesign for the first time. On WordPress I also updated parts of a website and helped with the refresh to make it better for user experience.”
What have you enjoyed the most this week?
“I’ve enjoyed having a variety of tasks to do and working on different projects for a variety of clients such as Martial Arts Academy to a Home Bar Manufacturer, as it really gave me an insight into the different sorts of things a designer would do if they worked in a marketing agency.”
Has this helped you understand what a designer does and given you an idea of what you’d like to do when you leave Uni?
“Yes, it’s been so interesting & I’ve really enjoyed this week, getting to know the different things designers do! I’d love to be a designer when I leave Uni!“
